Tapered I-Sections - Analysis and Design
Tapered I sections are possible in MasterSeries. You can use a 'Single Haunch' type section, setting the uniform parts at each end (Xh1, Xh2) to 0. The key detail with taper (as opposed to adding a haunch) is to ensure the parent section used represents the deeper end, then entering a value of 1 and less than 1 for the 'Dep H/D' ratios will create the taper without the middle flange you would get with a haunch. Dep H/D greater than 1 will add a haunch with a middle flange.
With will taper the I section in depth but not width.
You may need to add a new 'I' section to the steel sections open library to facilitate the correct section at the deeper end. You can find more guidance on Understanding How to Edit and Add User Sections to MasterSeries
This I section will designed appropriately in MasterKey Steel Design. MasterKey Connection design will not currently recognise the reduced section tapper depth and will use the part section depth for a uniform section.
Haunch I and Box section definitions are available from the MasterFrame section properties, which can taper both depth and with of I sections or box section, from user defined dimensions specified. The 'Haunched I & Box Section' are for analysis purposes only and cannot be designed in steel members or steel connections.
