Additional Reinforcement
The additional reinforcement tab allows the parameters controlling the design of the top and side reinforcement to be set. This includes the definition of the style of side bars as well as providing option controlling the detailing of the top reinforcement bars.
The layout of the additional reinforcement input area is shown below.
Side Bars
Diameter
This specifies the diameter of the bars used for side face reinforcement of the pile cap.
Spacing
This defines the vertical center-to-center distance between the side reinforcement bars.
Style
This allows the user to select the specific detailing configuration for the side bars (e.g., how they are anchored or tied into the main reinforcement).
Top Steel
Make the bottom steel into links
Make the bottom steel into links, IF the link length (ignoring lap) is less than 6 metres and A and B legs are both less than 2 metres.
Does not apply to 3 and 7 pile caps.
This detailing option allows the software to treat the main bottom reinforcement as U-bars or links that extend to the top of the cap, rather than using separate top and bottom bars.
Provide upper cage of (Diameter & Spacing)
This feature allows the designer to specify a nominal top reinforcement mat or cage. This is frequently provided as a health and safety measure to prevent hazards from piles or starter bars sticking up, which could otherwise impale workers on site.
The user specifies the diameter and spacing for this nominal reinforcement to ensure a safe working surface.
Alternative Bottom Bars
Provide alternative bottom bars (Diameter & Spacing)
Use alternative smaller bars in the non beam strip zones.
While the software automatically calculates and details the main reinforcement (bottom bars) required for the pile cap, these settings allow the user to specify a different or additional set of bars for the bottom face.
This can be used to manually override the auto-designed reinforcement with a preferred bar diameter and spacing to suit specific project or detailing requirements.
